Surrender

I wrote this song in the lead-up to the latest war in Iraq. It felt strange to me that rather than being exhorted to war with rally cries we were being lulled with assurances we would be greeted as liberators in a quick and easy war. Now that bigotry and moral cowardice are back in fashion in America I was reminded of this tune.

This recording is from the first Late Model Humans album, with me on electric guitar, bass, piano and lead vocals. My brother James is on acoustic guitar and harmony vocals. Matt Kennon plays the other electric guitar and sings backup. Matt's brother Tim plays drums.

We used to dim the lights when we played it.

Lay down like a dog in the sun
Lay down like a dog in the sun
Lay down when your working day is done

Lay down while we're marching in the street
Lay down while we're marching down your street
Lay down your tired head and go to sleep

Surrender

Lay down your heart, surrender to me
Lay down your heart, surrender to me
I'll be anything you want me to be

Surrender

Lay down your fear, drink from the cup
Lay down your fear, drink from the cup
The war will be over when you wake up

Surrender
