Woman with a phone

Buster Keaton

I went to the post office yesterday and got in line behind a man trying to mail a box that was a little too large to fit through the opening in the security window. He wasn’t happy about the situation and quickly resorted to shouting “fuck you” and threatening to beat the shit out of the man behind the window. The man on the inside was black and the man on the outside was white; only they know how much or little that fact played into their interaction. There is a lot of anger floating around these days.

I proceeded to mail my package much as I assume Buster Keaton would: in silence.

The day before yesterday I saw a woman with a phone sitting on a rock in Central Park. It was the hottest day of the year. It is the first week of May and we might not feel that kind of heat again for another month or more. She didn’t seem to be affected by the amorphous anger in the air. I made a quick sketch of her.
